Her father was Josten Agdestein and her mother was Dagny Rosholt, one of the two bondwives that her father kept within their small village home. She was the youngest and only daughter from the pair, but shared blood with many half-brothers and sisters that were also born of her father’s blood. » When Astrid was only a year old, a Staargir that lived within their small village set its sights on the young Astrid. Swaddled in her mother’s blankets, the Staargir peered down at the small baby and shared the news that the young Astrid would lose her sight before she reached her tenth year. The Staargir began urging Dagny to release the child into their care so that Astrid would become a Staargir herself. Refusing such a request when the child still had many years until her tenth, her mother returned home to tell Josten what she had been told. The two, while usually believing the Staargir’s words, were hesitant to actually put their own daughter forth to become one. Thus they refused the offering and continued to raise Astrid as if the prediction was never made.☆ Teenage Years: » As Astrid grew up, the prediction about her sight was becoming less and less true. She was quickly learning the ropes around the house and would help her mother with small tasks around the house, learning how to treat the kills her father got home and repurpose them into leather for usage in tools, clothing, and weapons. As her tenth year approached, her parents waited with baited breath, waiting for the day she would lose her sight. With no changes, they decided that perhaps this certain Staargir was less than accurate in their premonitions. At the age of eleven, Astrid took up fighting, following in her father’s footsteps on how to wield an axe and become proficient with it. Though her first fights were against dummies set up in the yard, she would quickly learn to step and move in a way that even made her brothers jealous. » Though not her mother, Astrid looked up to her father’s “main” wife, Marte. She was a renowned shield maiden who had come to fame in her family's icy village. Begging and pleading, the young Astrid finally got her way when Marte began taking the reins in training young Astrid in the ways of defending and fighting back with a shield. As a few years went by, Astrid began noticing a few issues she would have, waking up and feeling as if she was in complete darkness or waking up and the room around her being blurry for a few moments. She took this as normal things to experience and never brought it up as she went about her everyday life.☾ Adult Years: » Astrid began joining her brothers and sisters in raids, tearing apart other villages that would stand in their path. Astrid’s name was soon getting tossed around as being near as good of a shield maiden as Marte. This piqued the interest of some of the men in her village and surrounding areas. Already in her mid-twenties she found no interest in romantics, solely wanting to focus on bettering her own name and her family's name, but this would end soon as she met a man by the name of Argis Skoglund. Argis had been in her family's village to visit their local Staargir and have the monumental tattoos put onto his body. During the process, many came to watch the moment and Astrid began cracking jokes that he might have picked the wrong Staargir to go to, seeing as the Staargir was once wrong in his predictions of her losing her sight. This would begin the romance between the two and within the end of the year, the pair were married, taking each other as their main husband and wife to each other. » The two began their new life together, but their lives would soon change completely as Astrid would soon begin waking up with the same symptoms once again, sometimes her vision staying blurry throughout the day, having to rely on Argis to guide her around or feel for her own. Seeing her state quickly deteriorating, Argis set out to assist Astrid with whatever might be happening to her. He would train with her while she was blindfolded, getting her accustomed to being able to fight without seeing, teaching her how to use her surrounding sounds to pinpoint where an attacker was. While not to the degree she had before, this helped her continue to be able to fight. Though not without her sight, Argis took note of how her once icy blue eyes were beginning to grow lighter and lighter. » Finally on one cold morning of her twenty-eighth year, Astrid woke up to the world around her being dark. Rubbing her eyes, no sights came to her. In a panic she reached for Argis, flailing around and forcing him awake with a sob. He took hold of her and noticed her gaze was far off and away, her pupils clouded over and turning a faint milky white. The pair held onto each other as she cried out at her loss of sight, the Staargir’s predictions coming true, eighteen years later.☆ Current Years: » As Argis went off to fight in the burning of the North, Astrid stayed behind in the village, uncertain on if it was possible for her to fight in such a large scale battle. Though the battle was done, the internal battles plagued Argis and Astrid separately, causing them to spend nearly two years apart while he was off fighting the monsters in the North. During her time in the village, the Staargir sought her out, apologizing for being wrong about her ill-fate and giving her the tattoos on her face, resembling blue irises that she once had. With a loving return, Argis had Astrid pack up their home and move them to the Regalian city, the now blind woman trying to find a place where she could fit in with her now ailment.
