jeff mangum for sure-- best known as fronting and driving Neutral Milk Hotel and also starting the elephant 6 collective which spawned a lot of really significant acts in the indie and lo-fi scene in the 90s to early 2000s including of Montreal In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is already pretty universally praised as a masterclass album if youre knowledgable about that kind of stuff but i like gushing about it so i'll do that anyways-- it's really rare you come across a piece of art like it that's threaded so vibrantly and unapologetically with the raw, unadulterated emotion of its songwriter and singer. mangum's hazy, dream-like, tastefully nonsensical lyricism is almost carollian in its vivid imagery and psychedelia and the whole album just sounds otherworldly from start to finish thanks to the production and instrumentals great horned owls, bitches are sick victarion greyjoy
