Height: 6’5” Personality and Abilities Spoiler: Old Personality Selwynn is a cynical, arrogant and brash individual that so very often puts on a nice face in front of others to get what he wants. Years of serving the Kade family have conditioned Selwynn to know when to be himself, and when to put on a face. The Selwynn strangers see is carefree, happy, and humorous. He often indulges in bragging and storytelling from his glory days of fame with the Kades, even though he has been little-seen for years. He will offer advice and aid as a token, but those that know Selwynn best know that he is a schemer and does not invest in strangers unless he stands to gain. Selwynn is arrogant and enjoys bragging about his accomplishments to strangers, and he doesn't shy from lying or embellishing on stories as they suit his needs. Selwynn exudes confidence in this form, because he normally considers lying or putting on a face a low-stake scenario. It is very hard to get close to Selwynn. At his core, Selwynn is an introvert and always takes time for himself before others. As he becomes friends with someone, he lets down his guard and shows his more cynical and grumpy side. While Selwynn is a very supportive and oftentimes empathetic friend, he can be brash and often plays the role of a condescending parent while he has others' best interests at heart. Selwynn does not like traditional forms of intimacy such as hugging or touching. Generally speaking, Selwynn is a “good guy,” as vague as the phrase implies. He doesn’t go out of his way to harm other people for his own benefit, though Selwynn will often turn a blind eye to others simply out of his isolationist’s agenda. His morality works along an axis of not being bothered to help unless something can't help but bother him. The Core Traits Selwynn is Chaotic Neutral. He won't hurt other people for pleasure, but he very devoutly looks out for himself and his own. The Kade Family is his highest conceptualization of good. Selwynn is a Logician. Though he's often whimsical and inconsistent in his work ethic, he is also very cynical, brash and self-absorbed. Though he tends to be spontaneous and creative, he has difficulty relating to others. He doesn't let others get to him too much, and he is a supportive and loyal friend to those few he considers friends. Selwynn prefers quiet and isolation in nature, however he has no problem confidently expressing himself in front of strangers. Selwynn finds himself at a crossroads in faith. Though for the longest time, he followed the Cult of Ciellonia in the Faith of Estel and gave patronage to Ellea, he also associates with the Unionist Faith. Selwynn has performed the Sacraments of Solution and Rejection, but will still pray to Estel and Ellea in a Unionist cathedral. On a scale from 1-10, Selwynn ranks a 4 in his actual religious affiliation. His Tallea ring has long-since disappeared, though Selwynn would like to see it return. Life Story 181 AC: Birth of a Ranger Selwynn was born in 181 AC as Scíënne'annë Ciréassïenna to a wealthy, high-cultured Altalar family descending from an irrelevant son of an Elven Empress. Though Selwynn was always a loner, he did very well in school, and took particular interest in Elven history. Selwynn came to reject Altalar culture; he was never one for rules and custom, and this drew a rift between him and his peers. The Altalar always liked to daydream about his ancestors who lived before the Floundering, and about someday living as they did. In his teenage years, Selwynn took up archery to take breaks from his studies. The Elf often left for the wilderness outside of the city limits to practice. The elders of House Ciréassïenna, oblivious to what he was actually doing, tried to groom him to be a mage. This was fruitless; young Selwynn was relentless and rejected most of his lessons. 203 AC: A Lost Love Around the age of 22, Selwynn connected with another Altalar who shared similar values. Lae’tarua-jialle and Selwynn often snuck outside the city to spend time with each other. He showed her what he knew of archery, and she taught him several outdoors skills. The two formed a relationship and decided to run away and join the Rangers. In a twist of fate, Selwynn fired an arrow intending to save the girl from a brigand. Instead, the arrow found its way through her. Grieving, Selwynn continued his journey. The guilt from this event has played a formative role in how Selwynn socializes today. For the next several decades, Selwynn performed his duties as a Ranger and even worked as a mercenary. During this time, he learned Common to be able to communicate with employers and locals. He also drifted away from using a bow and arrow, and instead learned several parlor magics--skills which would come in handy when coupled with the dual blades of Jared Silverhand. 275 AC: Silverhand Selwynn met and befriended an Isldar bounty hunter named Jared Silverhand at the Etosian School of Rangers, who he became close to after working a few jobs with. 290 AC: New Employment Eventually, Silverhand pulled Selwynn into employment under House Kade through his connections to Alexander. Selwynn worked as a servant, advisor, guard, and more to House Kade during this time. He also served as a scout and ambassador in the Ranger Crisis, and tried to promote unlikely peace between the two worlds. This often defaulted to fighting his own people, which didn’t bother Selwynn much in the long run. The Elf later reprised his role as a scout in the Elven War. 303 AC: The Turning of the Tables Selwynn continued to serve as Cedric Kade’s servant throughout the Qadir occupation. Furthermore, Selwynn had a small existential crisis when the Statue of Estel appeared and began massacring thousands of people. For better or worse, Selwynn opted to completely abandon his faith in favor of a quasi-atheism, though he masked this with an adherence to Unionist doctrine. 304 AC: R&R This year was rather uneventful. Selwynn stayed with Cedric throughout most of the Bone Horror Crisis and Lo Occupation. 305 AC: Selwynn Today... Selwynn continued to serve House Kade, and was recognized as a familiaris when Cedric rose to the throne. In spite of all Selwynn does, he finds it difficult to find acceptance in Regalia. Recently, he has returned from an extended trip to Daendroc, where he scouted for the Regalian military on counter-insurgence missions. 306-307: Travelling Selwynn spent most of these times on the road acting as a scout for Regalia in the intermittent wars with the Elves. Selwynn, on occasion, has returned to the Holy City for vacation, and frequently takes part in the company of friends to pass the time. I will be peer-reviewing this application! (Not a staff review as I am biased). Under the skills section, make a note of which School of Rangers weaponry he is trained in. I assume you mean he is warrior in archery, judging from his talents, but make sure that is stated here. - The fourth paragraph of the personality traits section doesn't actually describe much of his morality. It actually feels more befitting of the fifth paragraph. Try to add at least a few descriptors here to explain how his morality would be perceived. Does he mean well in his actions, or could he not care less if he was kind? Does he believe in enforcing a strict regimen on all, or just himself? Out of the following, which does he consider of highest importance: himself, his family, religion, or the law? Perhaps something else? - The Archery talent cuts off abruptly. Is something missing? - In the life story, you mention that he moved to Regalia due to his "connections to Alexander". How did he obtain these connections? What sort of connections did he have? It's very rare to have a connection to the Emperor (or soon-to-be-Emperor) of Regalia, so it should probably have at least a touch of explanation. Since this is a peer-review, none of these edits are mandatory. I would however recommend them to improve upon your application.
