RUTGHER CAMPAIGN DRAWS TO AN END The military campaign in the Rutgher lands seems to be drawing to an end, as Regalia's forces march through their land. What remains of the Soren Army is known to have surrendered to the forces of House Faure, yet even as the traditional armed forces have withered another force has appeared to take it's place. It is reported that a massive wave of murder-suicides has taken place, killing hundreds or even thousands. Our reporters say that the perpetrators are fanatical cultists, who smoke opium and allegedly even engage in cannibalism, especially the eating of foreigner's livers. Countess-Elector Aleksandra Dragic and the Southermark Army have lead the charge in combating these fanatics, something we here at the Vecernje Vesti can only applaud. Our prognosis for the Rutgher based on current reports is that the campaign will last no more than a few more months, and it will go down in the annals of history as yet another victory for the Regalian Empire. The desperate attempts of madmen to hold back the inevitable tide of civilization is doomed to fail. REGROUPING IN SOREN - HOUSE GUENTYR PREPARING FOR SECOND BATTLE Following their previous defeat, the army under House Guentyr is reported to have taken part in an orderly withdraw from the Soren, and are now being relieved by state forces. Our current speculation is that they will likely regroup, and applying lessons learned from the previous battle, make a second attempt to destroy the vampiric menace that now infests what was the Soren Kingdom. To this we wish them luck. In other news, the Rutgher-Soren strait has been blockaded, about which a former admiral the Vecernje Vesti interviewed was quoted as saying "About fucking time". Soon after, a refugee camp on the river between the Soren and Rutgher was attacked by more of the vampiric hordes, though thankfully the army of House Novak intervened and managed to stabilize the situation. SLAVERY ABOLISHED IN THE EMPIRE As you, dear reader, have no doubt heard, Slavery has been abolished following a proclamation of the Emperor. It was described as a historical necessary evil, which has grown to taint the morals of our whole society and runs in contrast to the doctrine of Unionism and thus must be excised. Although we here at the Vecernje Vesti are followers of the old faith, it is believed that most citizens of the Empire will be in broad agreement that slavery is a moral ill, regardless of faith.. This ends the wretched institution which as plagued the Empire for hundreds of years. The Admiral we previously interviewed was quoted as saying "About damn time" when asked about this issue. BORDERS TO HOUSE SORENVIK LANDS CLOSED The Houses Nordhjem, Dragic, and Viduggla have all closed their landborders with the House Sorenvik. Our reporters were unable to discern any reason, and it would be disrespectful for us to speculate on the reasons why or the intent. We do however advise that any travelers in the area bear this mind, and plan their routes accordingly. URLAN MIGRATIONS CONTINUE Mass migration of the Urlan has intensified in recent months, causing considerable worry among local populations. It is speculated that they will have trouble integrating with local society culture, or not integrate and instead form enclaves within a community that could be disruptive. Already we have been made aware of several violent incidents occurring that have been instigated by migrating Urlan, though the veracity of such reports has yet to be verified and should be treated by our readers with healthy skepticism. OWNER OF REGALIAN TIMES THREATENED BY HOUSE PEIRGARTEN Following negative coverage by the Regalian Times newspaper of the conflict in Soren and Rutgher, as well as reporting around a controversy concerning the Grand Duke von Schwarzkrau, Duke Rodrigo Peirgarten has issued a public statement threatening the owner of the newspaper. In this statement, the Duke accused them of publishing anti-war propaganda, implied they were acting on behalf of a foreign state, and meant to sabotage the state under the guise of being a neutral newspaper. The Duke further stated that they therefore committed a Capital Crime by sabotaging the state, and demanded the owner turn himself in, or face a 50,000 regal bounty and the removal of his hand. While the Regalian Times is certainly a sub-par paper, and noble law was breached by them besmirching the good name of the Grand Duke, it was already widely known by the public that the initial campaign into Soren was a failure. Their reporting is unlikely to have significantly impacted public perception of the campaign. We will continue to report on this topic as it develops. ALLAR MERCENARIES BRUTALIZE MAN, TORTURE & GOUGE EYE OUT A group of Allar Mercenaries belonging to the Longmaw Company kidnapped a man outside the Pale Flame lounge. It was claimed that there was a private bounty issued on the man, which the public was not privy to, and after forcing them to the ground the man was mauled, beaten, and had an eye gouged out before being left to hang from the Crookback Bridge. Setting aside the absurdity of a private contract to torture someone to the brink of death, our investigators have determined the contract was issued by an allar who is friend or family member of the Longmaws. There is an obvious issue with a friend of the mercenary company issuing a private contract to brutalize someone that company wishes to harm. As it stands, mercenaries can assault whoever they wish as long as they get a friend to submit a contract first, as there seems to be no oversight to ensure contracts have solid legal standing. Although in this particular case it may be that the man who was tortured had legitimately wronged the contractor, and it could perhaps be the company was acting in good faith and did not intend to abuse the system of contracts, we believe that this system is ripe for abuse and should be reformed. Therefore, we call on the Mercenary Office to at once close this obvious loophole, before it is abused to allow mercenaries to terrorize anyone they take a dislike to. Aleksandra looks over the newspaper slowly, whistling quietly to herself as she does. "Actual interesting news. I love it." She immediately subscribes, a light laugh escaping her lips.
An aristocratic Rama hears a knock on his door, and is given the Dvalan paper by a jittery Ksat upon opening it. The mosasaurian Allar reads it over, staying silent for a long moment afterwards. He utters a growled "Thank you.", then shuts door and takes the Dvalan paper with him. Finding his way to a desk, he begins to write a letter. The letter is stamped with the seal of the Longmaw Company.
A masked Ksat-Allar, whilst in the prison cells of Grey-Gate, had his gaze caught by the news parchment, how he got it from the cell? Who knows. Reading it thoroughly, primarily the Allar mercenary part. Reading it through. A chuckle escaped Yautjas maw, a full on laugh, even. "I remember doing that."
