    rior to the
Cataclysm, the Elven Empire held Lusits as a colonial tributary state under what was the colonial realm of Ithania. Although prosperity ensued for both its respective Ailor inhabitants and the Elven nobility of Lusits, the collapse of the Elven empire brought forth a new era of tension and uncertainty. Deep within the dense, sweeping forests of fertile Lusits, swathes of eager Ailor pilgrims sparked conflicts between themselves about who should inhabit this freshly deposed Elven land. From these rivals, Don Fidalgo Cañero and his band of slaves established a dominant sugar cane trade which would later expand throughout Lusits. Predominantly an aspiring slaver, Fidalgo gradually found more success in his plantations, leading his family to branch out into the cultivation of cane rather than its previous, more sinister form of income. With time, Fidalgo’s plantations multiplied, allowing him to rebrand himself and his family as the da Cana. Those of the canes.

The success of the da Cana plantations was, however, often sporadic and short lived. Economic spikes were just as common as their deficits and downfalls, their growth eventually stagnating against the simultaneous growth of rival plantation families. By the time the territories of the da Cana fell into the hands of the current patriarch, Bartolomeo, only one path to become the dominant sugar cane provider of Lusits had presented itself. Conquest. At the brink of a mercenary conflict, however, the Bone Horde crisis manifested itself across Aloria. In Lusits, the subsequent destruction was catastrophic. Defended by palisades and able-bodied workers, the da Cana plantations held out under the concerted effort and leadership of Bartolomeo da Cana and his relatives-- at a high price. The damage, though, affected more than just Casa da Cana. When the crisis subsided, very few plantation rivals remained, allowing the step-brothers Bartolomeo and Saúl to establish a proper sugar cane monopoly in Lusits, expanding towards Daendroc and Daenshore as well. Now the da Cana have branched out their ambitions to Regalia, aiming to become the number one exporter of sugar to the Crown Isle.

Sugar cane farmers by trade and international exporters of sweet delight by hobby bigger trade, Casa da Cana only recently began to accumulate real wealth and influence within the Kingdom of Lusits.
    ▩ Culture & Lineage: Warmland Ailor | Bragacao [Lusits] | Daendroque-Parcal
▩ Colors: Forest green represents their agricultural roots, while a muddy, almost bronze-like brown symbolizes the fertile soils of inner Daendroc. Gold, the one true material that rules the world (as the notorious Fidalgo da Cana once described it), is one of the lesser known and lesser represented colors of the family. It is mostly used only, if at all, in bodily accessories or small outfit decorations.

▩ Family Traits: Casa da Cana is a notoriously cynical group, swollen with greed, avarice, and lust for gold. Chaotic neutral marks their spot on the scales of morality. Chain of command and the respect of ancestry are not at all valued concepts in the family despite their strong Bragacao heritage, rather, members of the family thrive in the present and unchain themselves from the past.
▩ Trade: Through hard work and unforeseen circumstances, the da Canas have fought and persevered to become the dominant source of sugar production in Lusits. Not just limited to Daendroc, the family also exports their sugar cane overseas, most recently having expanded to the Crown Isle. Here, both refined sugar and raw sugar cane is traded to businesses and individual buyers alike. Whether as raw products, prepared sweets & goods, or even as material for industry and alchemy, the da Canas have sought to penetrate as many markets as possible in order to maximize profit.

▩ Faith: Unionism can be said to be the 'official' faith of the family, but most da Canas are certainly not the religious type. Some have been known to openly admit their atheism if prodded.

▩ Sigil & Family Words: Upon its foundation, Casa da Cana adopted the symbols of the tropical parrot, the green iguana, and the golden coin to present proudly on their family crest. These themes are meant to represent the fertile, tropical paradise that is Daendroc and the splendorous amounts of money that one can obtain from the gifts of land and sea. --

"I'd sooner die as a shark, than have to live my life as a fish."
▩ Appearances: Any and every da Cana can be identified by their warm, sun-kissed skin that glows in a Lusits tan. Athletic figures are forged through hard work in the fields, and those of the main bloodline boast luscious, curly hair coupled by shapely pairs of brown eyes. As deescendants of a somewhat varied gene-pool -- at least compared to that of other states with more homogenous populations, the da Cana 'look' across its members will sometimes display odd varieties of heights and hair color.

The da Cana own and operate multiple sugar cane plantations and refineries in based in Lusits. For generations, these large sugar fields have been the source of da Cana's livelihood, in more ways than just financial. Every year, many of the season's profits are re-invested into expandind and maintaining the plantations. At the ports of Daenshore and Lusits, several merchant vessels sail under the da Cana crest, exporting loads of cane & refined sugar to clients in other lands. From the River Duchies, all the way across the ocean to the Crown Archipelago, and even as far as the scorches of Farah'deen, da Cana is pushed as a premium good. In Regalia, the family owns a small estate for their ambassadorial or personal trips, as well as a small sweets shop to sample out the quality of their prized sugar and products.

Due to their ambivalence towards the tradition of honoring ancestry and hereditary traditions, the family does not exactly keep a detailed registry of their family tree. Don Fidalgo is unanimously acknowledged as the founder of Casa da Cana as far as history goes, but the rest of the family tree is shaky and otherwise unimportant to most family members.

    Playable

    Don Fidalgo da Cana
    Deceased

Fidalgo rallied his plantation guild under the crest of da Cana, and founded his family some time after the collapse of the Elven Empire. Although homage is rarely paid to the accomplishments of ancestors, Fidalgo's name is revered as that of the founder of Casa da Cana.

    Don Boreano da Cana
    Deceased

Grandfather of the da Cana heirs. He was wise businessman who unfortunately was most remembered for having drowned in a swamp. There is little mention of Don Boreano in da Cana written history, as there is little written history of the da Cana in general.

    Don Fidu Fidalgo da Cana
    Deceased

Father of Bartolomeo and Saúl. Perished from typhus at a reasonably early age, but not before giving his sons the tools to make the family business skyrocket. Fidu was a cherished and well-respected figure among the family's plantations and the local agricultural community. Some of his laborers knew him to be harsh and unforgiving.

    Carmen Vasquez-da Cana
    Rogue

Mother of Bartolomeo. Divorced Fidu once, re-married him, and later sought an annulment after Fidu's death. Before the legal request could even be resolved, Carmen had allegedly disappeared. A common rumor around the plantation is that somebody had put a hit on Carmen to prevent her from ever spilling the many secrets Fidu had.

    Monica Cambeiro
    Unplayable

Mother of Saúl. She was known for being one of Fidu's lovers, but when the man chose to re-marry Carmen, Monica then abandoned her son, her family, and everything she had built in Lusits.
Bartolomeo da Cana, age 30 - [Played by @Kibaa]
The de-facto leader of Casa da Cana, as he inherited the largest chunk of the late Fidu's holdings, with the second largest portion of it going to Saúl. Bartolomeo has seen an unusual amount of ups and downs in life, but is perhaps right now in the strongest position he has ever found himself in. Much as his father was cherished for the great things he'd done for the plantations, so too has Bartolomeo become a hero-figure of the plantations after he organized the defense of the family's territories during the Bone Horror Crisis. He is happily married to Celia da Cana.

    Celia da Cana, age 28
The ambitious daughter of a Droquin alderman who married Bartolomeo. She's only slightly crazy, but her keen knack for business is sharp as a knife. Casa da Cana has grown to rely on her innovative trade plans to continuously draw in new waves of profit from overseas.

Saúl da Cana, age 21 - [Played by @Pandush]
After his mother abruptly cut ties with the family, the family dynamic became strange, especially for Saúl. He knew he was still where he was meant to be, despite his mother having thought otherwise for herself, but there was a large period of adjustment. Through all of their troubles, Saúl, Bartolomeo, and their closest cousins stood by each other. A fine and charming young man with an affinity for agriculture, he is a gifted farmer and an even better baker-- Lusits's very own green guru. - "Have you ever had an Iguana Croissant?"
    Cobi da Cana, age ?
A distant cousin of the mainline family, but his ties to Boreano da Cana give him legitimate claim to family assets, despite the family’s tendency to disregard lineage. Cobi's opinions seem to always be generally well-respected among the family and staff. His intelligent demeanor and work ethic are part of what makes him one of the most productive members of the family.

    Leonor da Cana, age ?
She was always the life of the plantations back in Lusits, and now brings that same vibrant energy to the family's operation in Regalia. Of all the family members who've joined Bartolomeo and Saúl in travelling to Regalia, Leonor has adapted to this new, foreign and chilly place much more easily than everyone else.

    Preta da Cana, age 18
The youngest of this generation of heirs, this opportunistic Bragacao makes up with fieriness what she lacks in experience. Although her aunt, Saul's mother, had left the family, both she and her cousin decided to remain with Saul and their cousins, to be raised by their uncles. Preta is an innate trickster, her talent being the result of devotion to the family trade as well as the tutelage of her veteran elders which shaped her in growing up.

    Heitor-Bruno da Cana, age 26
Throughout many unfortunate instances across the years, notably peaking with the Bone Horror Crisis, many of Fidu's own brothers and sister have been slain. Heitor-Bruno is one of the last remaining sons of the relatives on Fidu's side of the blurry family tree, and one that Fidu vowed to treat as one of his own.
