Despite his young age, he was mostly ignored as his other brothers were grouped for more traditional New-Regalian occupations and military service. After his oldest brother was sent away for conscription and his second for an economical school, only the 6 year old Ludwig and his younger sister remained. They bonded thoroughly. Ludwig always expressed a strange fascination for the grim fairytales of Uttgard and an interest for the anomalies of the world around, following more scholarly pursuits. Unfortunately, given the successes of his other two brothers, his parents were satisfied with simply letting Ludwig run the family store - mostly focused on the breadwinners of the house. Ludwig's younger sister expressed a great fear of the daemons in their fairytales one night, and driven by both a sudden flare of passion to prove himself as more than just 'the third son' and to promise his sister a world without fear, Ludwig fled his home and found himself wandering through the forests of Waldmark. Eventually, Ludwig followed a travelling band of Purist extremists on their way to Tirgunn, who ensured that he would not starve nor find himself prey to the wilds. Once they had reached the realm of the Darkwalds, however, they seperated. Ludwig began the trek to the Virgadulvas Castle, alone and cold. At one point, he nearly gave up, collapsing from the frigid weather and the unrelenting wilderness. However, as he fell, Ludwig caught sight of an injured corvid. The to-be Darkwald saw an omen in the injured raven - an omen that the Castle was close. Out of a great desire to save the bird from the predators of the Wald, he rose to continue on his journey. The Schlüsselfeld finally reached the Virgadulvas Castle, beginning his training as a page of the Darkwald Order. Adolescence: Ludwig spent most of his time as a messenger for his mentor, studying the tenets of Unionism, the Code of the Black Raven and the Occult in his apprenticeship. He found relief and relaxation in books once he learned literacy, taking to libraries between each training session. Otherwise, despite the turbulent childhood, he had a fairly standard Knightly upbringing. Adulthood: As Ludwig turned 21, he began his first mission - graduating from squirehood as an independent Man-at-Arms. He accomplished the mission without little else to note. Eventually, after patrolling the forests and villages of Calemberg, Waldmark and Osteiermark, Ludwig travelled to the Holy City in pursuit of knowledge and further work.
