He was born in a stronghold in the Kingdom of Kausis and had two siblings, though only one still lives. Weaknesses One of Artyom’s major flaws is his zealotry and xenophobia stemming from his upbringing. Being raised in one of the strongholds in Kausis he was brought up on a steady diet of religious dogma and bigotry. Although, he has managed to reign it in slightly over the years it can still cause him significant issues in social interactions. Relationships Saladin al-Raptum - Artyom is Saladin’s bodyguard who has been brought over with him from Essalonia. Life Story Early Childhood Born and raised in one of the Ohrneti strongholds in their Kingdom of Kausis, Artyom in many ways had a fairly normal childhood in most ways. Both of his parents were ardent Unionists and his father, Volkov Arevikshvili, was one of the soldiers of the fortress who regularly fought in the crusades across Ellador. He had an older brother named Udze and a younger sister called Marika. However, during the defining moment of his childhood his sister was killed during a Dorkarth Vampire assault on their keep. It was after this event that he became resolved to follow in his fathers footsteps and fight in the Ohrneti crusades against such creatures. Adolescence Due to these events much of Artyoms’ time was spent in military training as a teenager, with it soon becoming clear that the sword would be his weapon of choice as he excelled in this aspect of his training. It was during this time that Artyom also truly found his faith, although of course he had always been brought up as Unionist, he became truly devout in his teenage years. Unfortunately his father had become increasingly distant from his sons following the loss of his daughter, he became obsessed with the incessant wars and was determined his sons should join him. As such he made the decision to send Artyom off to the Imperial Regalian Marshal Academy at the age of 16 to finalise his preparations to join the crusades. Young Adulthood Upon Artyom’s return to Kausis he was swiftly inducted into the ranks of the military forces and sent out on a number of initial forays against their enemies. However, during one such patrol to hunt down some Isldar they were ambushed by an unknown foe and he was knocked out. When he came to, he appeared to be in the hold of a ship and in a far hotter climate than he had been used to having grown up predominantly Ellador. When they came to a stop he was dragged out onto the deck and came face to face with the man who would take on the preeminent role in his life moving forwards. It was a Songaskian bandit leader named Saladin al-Raptum who had launched a raid into Ellador and taken him from his home to the otherside of the world. Saladin announced that henceforth all captives were beholden to him and that provided they serve him well they would be well treated. Adulthood The relationship between Artyom and Saladin was incredibly rough initially, Artyom’s fervent Unionism and militaristic upbringing caused considerable friction. However, having been kept largely in isolation in desert camps and fortresses surrounded by Saladin’s other men he knew he had no chance of returning home. Eventually after several years he resigned himself to his fate and began to stoically carry out the orders he was given. It became necessary to hide his faith to a certain extent but he kept it close to his heart nonetheless. His skill with a blade and knowledge of military tactics from his time at the Imperial Regalian Marshal Academy meant he soon became a valued member of Saladin’s forces. He has managed to attain the position of one of Saladin’s bodyguards after taking part in an internal power struggle and backing Saladin. Thereby Artyom once again returned to Regalia, following Saladin’s move to Regalia in recent times. Artyom has developed a level of admiration for Saladin during their years together, but he has not forgotten that this was the man that took him away from his family and holy duty. Now he is in Regalia he is closer than ever to being able to escape and return home to Kausis to rejoin the crusades against the many enemies of Unionism.
