After his father's abdication from matters of politics and leadership of House Howlester, Rodderick took up the reign and lead the family back from having only an estate to their name to royalty in Gallovia; becoming Sovereign Prince of the country with full executive powers to rule as its singular ruler by Emperor Alexander himself. Rodderick had a very comfortable upbringing at the hands of his mother Jehenna Howlester, being coddled from a very young age with the watchful eyes of his father William and occasionally his Uncles to ensure he didn't get into too much trouble. The young man has a multiple siblings, Genevieve, Celianna, Tommen, Aldwyn, Rosalina, Ylva and Lillian; along with a plethora of other family members that visit at random intervals. Rodderick used to be very worried about his self image in his youth because of the pressure being placed upon him to take over the family which, he felt he was not ready for. This prompted him to become very boisterous and almost bully like as a means of coping with his anxiety. His eyes are almond shape and his face bears a scar left behind as a testament of his involvement in the palace battle during the Lo Occupation, his swept back hairstyle shows off his forehead as well. The young man has the traditional Ceardian look about him face wise, some even mistaking him for being northern on some occasions but overall he comes across as rather dashing. He is still a young boy at heart though, sporting a content smile or humoured grin most of the time. Rodderick is considered short by his peers standards, standing at 5 foot 10 over the usual Regalian 6 foot. Weight wise, Rodderick is a healthy and fit 180lb, which gives him a strength edge over his more agile noble friends. His muscles are well defined and he himself sports a sculpted pectoral region from a combination of the excessive amounts of training he involves himself with and his rigorous diet. His skin is a proper Regalian pink, decorated scarcely with hair. Rodderick has tattoos, one on the under wrist of his right arm of a flaming sword and shield, a Ceardian band on his left arm with a couple of stars but must noticeably, he sports a decorated leg sleeve that runs from his right ankle, all the way up to his pelvis decorated with Ceardian symbols and a wolf motif. Rodderick mainly sports his family colours when out and about, preferring to wear loose clothes that allow manoeuvrability much such as Kiltachs and the traditional Dressolini dutino fashion. More often than not, he wears the former, decorated with a purple tartan with black trousers to contrast. Rodderick has a triangle motif necklace, gifted to him by his wife and also sometimes wears solid gold arm bands if he is feeling unusually flashy. He does however break the usual fashion norms. Rodderick speaks in a deep tone but with a moderate tempo. Rodderick grew up in Galloway which makes it no surprise that Rodderick adopted a slight Highlander accent. He has since refined his accent, making him sound much less Highland Ceardian and more clearer, but there are occasions when his heritage slips through. He believes that his life is far too short to be constantly unhappy, so he personally endeavours to smile and enjoy what time he has. His demeanour often shines through in conversation as well, though this sometimes comes across as just the man being talkative at best, or even intrusive at its worst. As with everyone, there are occasions where he will have to act more seriously, and strive to be reserved and calm, especially in a courtroom setting. Rodderick is a man of the law, and he takes the law extremely seriously, as it it were his calling. With that said, he will enact proper judgment when it comes to verdicts, though sometimes, where he believes it right, will temper justice with mercy. This is because while being lawful, he also feels he has a duty to the general public as almost like a protector figure. He aspires to be this man of the people and do right by them, using equity in law to do so. « INNER THOUGHTS » Rodderick had a somewhat tough upbringing. The Howlester spends a lot of time in self reflection, regretting how he treated some of his friends in his youth, leading to occasions where he will shut himself away as a result of feeling guilty, even though it happened years before. His emotional dependency on individuals like his mother, and his wife Katriane often made him feel weak, especially when this dependency was obvious around other family members. Since the passing of his wife and the absenteeism of his mother in his life, he has become increasingly dependent on the attention of anyone willing to give it to him. His easily manipulated nature is likely a direct result of this dependency. Rodderick is certainly not a defeatist by any means, but he still does suffer feeling lonely in silence, even if not alone physically, he definitely feels lonely in his new position as Prince of Gallovia and the responsibilities that come with it. « CLOSE RELATIONS » Rodderick is very playful with his family, often trying to execute practical jokes on his siblings. Even with his elders in the family, the Howlester does whatever he can to provide them with some minor enjoyment. As Patriarch though, he has to sometimes come to the realisation that it cannot all be all fun with no work. Unlike his father though, Rodderick expresses sympathy and understanding with his siblings and relatives that act out of line, after all he himself was once the rebel within the family, but he does try and put perspective on the situation and help reform his family member's behaviour to something more acceptable as is expected from Royalty. After all, all Rodderick wants is stability for his family, so he will enact tough love if he believes that one of his family members is acting purposely detrimental to the families image. « MORAL COMPASS » Rodderick has come a long way since his days of deviance in this youth. Since studying Law, Rodderick has come to understand the full value of justice and exercising good will to his fellow Regalians, making him a true Lawful Good. He as Grand Justicar sees that as his civil duty. To the average Joe, Rodderick is fair, favouring punishments that will reform the culprit, rather than just outright harming them. To the frequent vagabond or more serious criminals, Rodderick's mercy comes to a swift end. Date of birth: November 02, 279 AC. The first born child of nine children from his father, William Howlester, and his mother, Jehenna Howlester (Formerly Lampero) in Stirling Castle in Kinwrey, Gallovia. Rodderick was doted on by his mother and he grew fond of her attention as he was growing up. William saw to spending time with his son when he could, but unfortunately was away a lot for political and military reasons. Rodderick was an adventurous child, eager to find and explore new places within the Castle, much to the worry and humour of his mother. As Rodderick grew older, so did his desire to explore, much to the dismay of his father. Rodderick began to act out and misbehave as a result of his father's restrictions, though he soon learnt that he was better off staying quiet and behaving than being forced into his Great Uncle Aethelred's lectures on Unionism. He was sent to study at the Regalian Ecological Academy in Vultaro while his father was at war and his mother was seeing to other matters. He discovered he was enrolled in classes with his childhood friend from the neighbouring Lorhauser province, Amelina Peirgarten which helped the Howlester settle in comfortably. Rodderick excelled at his work here, alongside excelling at being a pain in Amelina's side, often pulling practical jokes on her in classes. Amelina's "torture" was not to end after graduation either. Soon after they both received their doctor qualifications, Amelina was sent to the Collegiate d'Evraux to learn diplomacy in Ithania, where, sat right next to her was the familiar Gallovian heir apparent -- grinning wryly. It was a long and arduous 6 years of study but left Rodderick with an unbreakable friendship with Amelina. Young Adulthood. Rodderick graduated the Regalian Statesman Academy in 297AC, opting to become a trial maker as his career path. Outside of annoying Kaja Santorski, his childhood friend who had joined the Ailleacht Skeamdh after Ania and William married, whom he had developed feelings for. They began an official relationship on his last day in the Galloy, sealing it with a kiss before he was off to traverse the Empire to represent wealthy commoners, aristocrats and nobility alike in various Courts of Law. He studied husbandry during his travels, adoring the variety of animals that decorated the expanse of Aloria. Mid cases, Rodderick would have Kaja visit. The two began having a more physical relationship and eventually it stemmed into a Courtship, albeit still with the long distance. Neither of the two wished to marry quickly, as it would inevitably cause problems with Rodderick's career given he was required to travel a lot between fiefs for legal consultation. He also spent a stint in Le Pays Royale as Regalia's legal ambassador to the Ithanian Sovereign. Kaja and Rodderick would exchange letters frequently, but on many occasions Rodderick would find himself waiting for others. Some from his mother and others from Duncan which never came. This saddened the Howlester greatly, which caused him to go into a depression for a time. He was finally able to pull himself out of his slump by taking up poetry, dancing and acting. After returning to Galloy, he married Kaja, now Imperially named Katriane, as part of a political move to bring Santorski into the Howlester fold and to cement their relationship firmly, granting legitimacy to their rumpled bedding. Adulthood. Rodderick returned to Regalia to assist his father in management of the family in 304AC, just before the outbreak of the Lo Occupation. Unable to get a hold of his family, as they had already began an open rebellion against the Mad Queen, he reunited with his old companion Duncan. The two were a part of the assault on the Queen's Palace, during which Rodderick was severely injured with a wound to his leg. Duncan saved Rodderick and brought him to a healer. After the Lo Occupation, Rodderick returned to Gallovia to recoup with his wife. There they had two children, Alferic and Oswald in the coming years. Rodderick returned in the summer of 305AC. After his father's abdication from patriarch of the family, Rodderick became title holder and sole owner of all Howlester assets. He then made the Crown Isle his permanent residence, and intends to uphold his newly acquired positions and titles for the glory of his family. Present. Rodderick held the position of Privy Councilman and Judicial Minister for a time before being elected to become Supreme Chancellor of the Regalian Empire by the reformed State Council later that year following the abdication of House Kade from the Imperial seat. With no Imperial leadership, Rodderick became the de facto ruler of the Regalian Empire for a time. He was one of the victims of the Anglian Mist Crisis at the end of his sixth month successful tenure which left him lost for two months until the concluding of the crisis. He remembered nothing during this time and for him, only mere seconds had passed. Following this, and seeing the infighting that had occurred during his absence and the subsequent power vacuum that had caused, Rodderick met with Alexander Kade in Mull and concocted an alliance with House Kade to place Alexander back in power. Using his executive authority as Supreme Chancellor, he made his last edict the ascension of Alexander as Emperor and placed House Kade firmly back in the Imperial seat. Overall, his tenure saw legal reforms for commoners and nobility, the return of Mercenary rights, representation of commoners in city governance through the City Council and the reformation of the Violet Order once more. He was then made Grand Revain of Gallovia for the next year, remaining out of politics and assisting House Kade in remaining firmly in control as part of their alliance. He began studying Ceardian cairns in the same year, obtaining an almost perfect one from Old Ceardia. The status quo maintained until mid 308 where his wife Katriane passed from a high fever, causing him to fall into a deep depression which he fails to publicly hide. He would never be the same and much of his previous fervent playful behaviour disappeared from the blame he placed on himself for both letting Katriane return to Gallovia alone and for not being by her side when she died. I have only one small mark to make: I found the interpretation of Alistair being an unforgiving mentor very difficult to fathom, largely due to my experiences with the Character. There's also something vaguely off about a duplicate viridian training, theoretically Rodderick would have received 2x4 stacks of Viridian training, which for the purpose of the greater scheme, doesn't add anything to the character. I think it also detaches itself a bit too strongly from the concept that Rodderick doesn't want to be a Viridian Knight all that much, but conveniently has all the footwork done to be one and to excell at being one due to convenient circumstance. If you say it's just in there for the sake of creating a friend bond with Alistair, that'd be fine, but before approving I want to hear your say on this matter. @BillyTheScroofy
Yeah, truth be told I had hopes of trying to get some combat roleplay out with Alistair by implying a relation there, but if its inconvenient or non-linear to the character, I can change it around to have the relation formed over something else entirely. Perhaps, checkers or familiar feelings on certain things.
Removed the mention of Alistair training Rodderick completely and instead substituted generic swordplay tutors in place.
