While not related, he sees Hui and Jihao Zhao as his parents, and their small son Li as his brother, and cares for them more than his birth family.

    • As seen by others, Eun-Ji is silver-tongued, although a bit slippery, and is quite the jester. He wields a sassy demeanor, even when backed into a corner, and will talk back with his deadpan deliveries. His jokes are often self-defeatist in nature, focusing on his inability to find or keep a lover. However, he is proud of his abilities and will defend them to perceived naysayers. Often to be found taking a merchant-like persona, with the way he speaks to strangers, he can be found raising or lowering prices to his benefit- but can easily be fooled by those in dire need, often dropping the pricing entirely- in exchange for their business when they are able to provide it. He can also be biting and judgemental, although driven only by a wish for knowledge he can use to climb higher. Eun-Ji is not above blackmail, or any crime for that matter. If it sells his alchemy, so be it.
    • To himself, he is controlled by a certain ambition, despite his low-self esteem, due to the pervading thought that his craft is an art that will take him far- and he will go anywhere to sell it. Eun-Ji sees himself as a servant in that regard, following it to riches and glory galore, but refuses to accept the selfish aspects of his aspirations. Eun-Ji is also unwilling to accept the responsibility for the less legal usage of his products, like in the event that something he sold led to someone’s murder. As he views it, once the product is out of his hands, so is its use, and thus the responsibility is not his- anyone who charges him as such has flawed reasoning, obviously. After all, who comes after a blacksmith for forging a sword that killed a man? It’s done its purpose, so let sleeping dogs lie.
    • With family and friends, Eun-Ji has quite an odd relationship with his friends. He will allow acquaintances in, but is unwilling to allow them to get closer, guarding himself behind white lies and attempts to drive them away. Although it is borne of a misguided attempt to protect them, Eun-Ji doesn’t enjoy it by any means, and his family and friends are about the only ones he can really regret using as stepping stones for ambition or just treating badly in general. In the sense of his mutual antagonisms, he will take joy and delight from their failures, but becomes a bit possessive in the fact that no one else is allowed to hate or antagonize them, seeing it as his job alone. With family, however, he avoids them completely, seeing himself as unworthy of their fear for his life and otherwise affection for him after deserting them for his own goals- although he is quite close to his adoptive family, and feels a strong love towards them. He makes no effort to avoid them, as they live in the Yang-Tzu. Eun-Ji wishes for a family, but feels undeserving of one, especially since he feels that he cannot attract someone to truly love him (his low self-esteem stemming from his burn being the fuel for it). Loyalty is not a driving force for him, for any of his relationships, until they delve into a romantic aspect. In the event that he were to fall for someone, rare as it is, he would attempt all he could to protect them, but would ultimately leave them in the desire for their safety and emotional wellbeing.
    • Morally, Eun-Ji lives for himself and his craft. Others will come and go, but it is up to him to defend and uphold alchemy, and he takes special interest in others that practice as well. He fits the archetype of a Chaotic Neutral best, being a self-serving backstabber to the best of his ability- while still playing it quite safe, as he is rather distinctive and can’t quite hide away among the rest of the world. He is unwilling to sacrifice for others, unless they mean something of a large magnitude to him, like a romantic interest or close friend, although he may not really have either of those once he realizes his goals.
    • Seeing the world, Eun-Ji believes magic is unnatural, whereas alchemy is a natural gift given to his people by the Dragons he worships, although he praises the Emperor in public. He will gladly dislike someone outright simply due to them being a mage, same going for Silven, as he believes them to be lazy, and controlling a power that is not truly theirs- unlike alchemy, which, for example, requires study and meticulous precision. Perhaps this dislike is borne of a secret jealousy for the power they wield, although he misunderstands what goes into the practice of magic. Despite his dislike of them, however, he assumes there is power in being associated with a mage or Silven, and will willfully stay around them. Eun-Ji views nobility as inheritors of a station they may or may not deserve, but only respects them based on the repercussions he’d suffer otherwise. The same goes for the Emperor, although not quite, as he sees him as sitting on the throne of his forefathers without bleeding for it, although showing to be a capable leader. Certainly not anything to be worshipped, however.

    • {Alchemy} Eun-Ji is a talented alchemist, with careful hands and a vast knowledge of products. Having studied at the Liànjīn Shù Xuéyuàn Academy for fourteen years, with six years of textbook study, five of field study in the mountains under a learned graduate and her blacksmith husband, and finally, three more years finishing his work in the hallways of the school, Eun-Ji has an intimate understanding of almost any alchemical substance, as well as metallurgy and the role it plays in his work. He also can create the substances as long as he has a recipe, the materials needed, and the difficulty is not too high for him.
    • {Perceptive} After years of a communal lifestyle with near-daily exposure to other people, Eun-Ji has learned to recognize the differences in how they act and carry themselves, and it carries over into other areas as well. Pertaining to his alchemy, Eun-Ji can pinpoint the mistakes made in an errant batch, or figure when in the making it had been left too long on the burner. He can almost read people like a book, although he is known to goad them into revealing if what he perceives is correct or not.
    • {Careful} Since his injury, Eun-Ji is incredibly careful in everything he does, believing a guiding hand, watchful eye, and a prepared mind are the keys to avoiding a disaster. He is often found over-packing for simple outings, or over-planning events that may not ever actually happen. His movements are usually with purpose, seeing as a careless movement had scarred him for life, and as such, he regards those who fail to plan for the future as imbeciles.

    • {Eyesight} Eun-Ji has quite the weak eyes, being unable to see farther than three or four inches away from his face without any correction. His eyeglasses, which he is never seen without, are also quite thick, but susceptible to breakage. The silver wire that holds them together is also only as thick as the glass pieces themselves, allowing for a high degree of malleability that could be used to make them unwearable. His left eye is decidedly worse than his right, due to the burn scarring that happened just below it- it is presumed that a small amount of the product had made its way into his eye over the course of the cleanup.

    { Birth-Age 7 }

    • Eun-Ji Jeung is born to merchants Chin-Hwa and Hyun-Jae Jeung, the first of four siblings, on November 21st, 275 AC. It is a cold winter.
    • Eun-Ji’s siblings are born- Il-Seong when he is three, Soo-Jin when he is five, and Jun when he is six. Eun-Ji, however, is not around much while Jun is a newborn, instead spending his days at the home of a neighbor to learn how to read and write. He is proficient, although studies hard to impress his father.
    • On Eun-Ji’s seventh birthday, it is revealed that he will go on to inherit his father’s business. His studies expand to include mathematics, history of the Yang-Tzu, and reading in Common.
    { Age 8-13 }

    • Doing well in his studies, Eun-Ji finds himself drawn to the stories of the alchemists that his mother tells him at his bedside. He dreams of the craft and delves into researching what he can about it in the books his father deals.
    • He begs his father to find someone to teach him the noble art of alchemy. Seeing this as a good opportunity for business, Chin-Hwa begins to put aside money from his lucrative business to pay for a schooling.
    • His lessons take a more natural turn, setting up the foundations for his schooling at the Academy.
    • Eun-Ji becomes less and less involved with his siblings as time goes on. As he does so, he begins to care less of their development or well being, being concerned with himself first and foremost. His father sees his son more as a business asset than his child at this point, and will refer to him as such.
    { Age 14-19 }
    • Eun-Ji is taken to the Liànjīn Shù Xuéyuàn Academy at 15. Immediately, he is taken by the lessons it teaches, finding a sort of zeal and ambition he had never quite had.
    • Eun-Ji takes an interest in the Universal Solvent. He begins doing outside research to begin trying to find a recipe he could make in order to come closer. It takes years to figure out a baseline recipe.
    • He excels in his classes. Eun-Ji is well-regarded by his teachers (despite not being the best in his class), who he begins to slip questions to, asking what compounds could assist with his quest for the Solvent.
    • When he is seventeen, Eun-Ji slips away to the lab after hours. He had his bare formula on a sheet of parchment. However, he was careless in setting down the formula sheet, and as one thing led to another, the fire under his pot caught the parchment, which in turn lit the Fireweed, which spread a nasty burn across Eun-Ji’s face.
    • Eun-Ji sees it as the will of the Stars and decides it isn't his destiny to seek the Solvent. He spends a week in the infirmary, resolving to learn his art and finally leave the school.
    • At age seventeen, Eun-Ji takes the top spot in his class for the year, owed to a new zeal to succeed. After all, his art is marked across his face. It would only make sense to dedicate his life to its mysteries- seeing as his father wouldn’t want him either way.
    • Eun-Ji becomes the target of ridicule and sagely warnings from students and teachers alike, hardening his willingness to allow those close to him in further. As such, this is the point where he begins to intentionally alienate those who care for him, and he becomes embittered.
    • He receives a letter from his father, stating that if he does not use his alchemical prowess for his father's business, Chin-Hwa will send people to take any product he wants from him by force. Disgusted by his family, Eun-Ji would rather die than go back to them, instilling a strong wish for his own path in him.
    { Age 20-24 }
    • At age twenty-one, Eun-Ji embarks on his years of field study. In order to learn Metallurgy, he decides to study under a skilled graduate, Hui, and her husband, Jihao, a blacksmith. They live in the mountains, a fair ways away from the school. Two months of his first year are taken just to get to the village they call home.
    • The village is subject to Wulong raids over the course of his years there, and the ship meant to take him back to the school when it is time is destroyed during one specific raid. Eun-Ji becomes quite intimate with the recipes for Huātáo (albeit rarely used), Obscura, Lufkanone, and Firebite, being able to make them quite quickly given how much he makes to assist in defense.
    • He develops a liking for Jihao and Hui, seeing them as family, rather than the parents who had raised him and paid for the education he enjoyed, but also threatened his life. Hui is pregnant with Jihao's son, Li, and Eun-Ji becomes skilled in creating pain relievers to guide her through the difficult pregnancy. Li is delivered without much injury to the mother, although his birth is a close call and a panicked time.
    { Age 25-Present }

    • His years pass quickly and without any other major incident, and Eun-Ji makes his way back to the school just three months before his twenty-sixth birthday. He still writes Hui and Jihao as he continues and ultimately finishes his studies.
    • At age twenty-nine, Eun-Ji graduates, packs his things, and not even three days after his release from the school, fakes his death in a fiery explosion in a town two days’ walk from the Academy. He sends Hui and Jihao a letter assuring them that he is still alive, although he is going to Regalia to seek fortune. He leaves it to the school to deliver the news to his family, especially his father.
    • Eun-Ji spends four months tracking down a merchant’s ship that will take him to Regalia. In exchange for his passage, he agrees to make products for them to sell at port. They stop in Daenshore, as well as the Shadow Isles, but quickly leave the latter after trading.
    • It takes them six months to reach the shores of the Holy City, making many stops along the way, where Eun-Ji disembarks and makes off on his way. He is now twenty-nine, and will be thirty come November.

    ☼ Staff Review! ☼
    Hello, my name is Eccetra and I’ll be reviewing your app today.
    • While you were not expected to know this, the School of Alchemy is in the final stages of processing for a rewrite / update. Not much will need to be changed in terms of your application, but the individual disciplines are being done away with in favor of a singular School of Alchemy. To attain expert, he will need to spend 9 years in an academy and 5 years of work in the field. So you don't have to redo this in 2 days, I'd recommend you alter this accordingly now!
      -
    • One more thing to add is that the idea of Chi'en-Ji alchemists is being done away with. That is not to say that he can't be one, but for the life story you may wish to add that the stories of Chi'en-Ji alchemists were rare. In a way, that might make them more special and mysterious.
      -
    • Why did Eun-ji decide to fake his own death and abandon his parents? From what I can see, they did nothing that would logically make him hateful of them. It seems a little bit odd. Try and add a reasoning for this, or at least explain to me here why he did.
    Please mark your changes in green and tag me when you’re finished!

    Changelog- September 2nd, 2017
    • Changed the dates of his alchemical education at the academy. He has now enrolled at twelve, embarks on his field study at eighteen, and finishes his last three years at twenty-five! Please let me know if the young starting age is incompliant in any way, since mages are required to start at 14.
    • Changed the mention of Ch'ien-ji alchemists to alchemists in general, and embellished his thoughts on them.
    • Added mentions of his father's controlling business mentality, and how he wanted to use Eun-Ji for himself. Please let me know if this is unclear, and I'll fix it further.
    • Added symbols to my changelog formatting because I am jealous of your pretty symbols.
    Changes are done in green! @Eccetra

    Hello again!
    • The minimum age to attend the School of Alchemy, along with most schools, is 15. Aside from that, everything else looks good! Make the appropriate changes here and we can get this approved.

    Changelog- September 3rd, 2017
    • Changed the dates around a bit. He now attends at fifteen, begins his field study at twenty-one, comes home from that just before he is twenty-six, and graduates at twenty-nine. His voyage is shortened from a year and six months to ten months accordingly, and he has only just landed in Regalia.
    • Added that he is being tutored in Daen, after an IC development.
