The assault on the Regalian walls would begin on the 20th of January. The weather was clear on this midday, while the temperature had been going up. The snow which had been in Regalia for some months now had already started melting, creating a very unfortunate slush of mud and water all around the bastion walls as well as inside the poorer areas of the city. The assault against the city walls was planned against the north walls near the forest district so as to diminish the amount of casualties from collateral damage, as decided by Pellegrino Venanzi and Percy Ravenstad. Jamie Theodulf Rosendahl and Edmure Coen stood guard by the Imperial Guards while Darius Silevon and Amaerien Cullas acted as messengers for the Emperor’s orders to the front lines. Agari Sylfina and Philip Kade finally stood in the Imperial tent, Philip playing a game of chess with the Emperor while Agari was assigned to assist, serve or guard Philip in whatever capacity she could. The Emperor left the military engagements to the Marshals and Generals who all had a higher understanding of the military campaign than he ever could, but he shared in their anxiety for the moment. This was the do or die moment for the loyalists. A loss in this assault would end their ambitions to retake the capital and invite a long drawn civil war which could last for years. Eventually when the Emperor crossed Philip into a checkmate, he raised his hand to signal for the assault to begin.

The entire assault on the city wall was eventually awarded to Wiliam Coen as his Magnum Opus of his military career and the final culmination of months of leading the major Resistance movements. The assault was planned to be a fairly straight forward occurrence, the Starlight Cannon powered by Tristan Keppkuula’s Soul Essence was used to disable the wall’s cannon defences and to crumble the archery towers, while the soldiers, militia and free folk would assault the wall with ladders. The Starlight Cannon was further used to collapse the Treeon Fort, a small fortified structure that previously housed a Violet Order detachment. From this segment, a group of elites would be sent up the wall to capture the gatehouse with the support of some men, so as to hopefully make an easy entry into the city.

Javier Enriquez led the first wave against the wall while Wolfgang Drache, Sinaht Heiwynn, Grayson Prejaun, Nianthan Heiwynn and Madeleine D’eluise led their respective militias behind him. The first assault failed to bring up the ladders, though Javier Enriquez distinguished himself by helping most of his wave survive the first arrows and defences with almost no casualties. They were quickly followed by Ania Santorski, Ekusu, Peggy Bigge, Cecil Empolan, Simon de Bellamy, Dietrich Gunthard Drache, Larasviel Silevon (who suffered a scar on her shoulder) and Trevor Lejon Grey who managed to get the first ladders up to the walls with their militia and free folk in support.

Tyrok Ulfurtonn, Aiden Eldritch, Juliette le Seur, Ztril Merrit and Daenalia Heria were the first ones on the walls, followed by Iona of Basta, Edward Dertycia, Elros, Jannik Sinclair and Rakashiin. At the same time, Eirik Valdemar and Vluxilkik led the elite squad up the Treeon Fort ruins which had been collapsed by the Starlight Cannon. They were supported by Domenico Cavalcante, Darak Bolvus, Warren Coen, Selwynn Crassian, Stephen Valeur, Dianne Coen and Joppa Engeram who would charge against the defenders on the walls while Nicolette d’Eluise, Mirau Hialiel, Braelah al Sahid and Oskar de Santigo provided covering fire from the ladders near the wall. Elizabeth Black, Maiven Arakida and Milahme Coen meanwhile led another charge by the free folk on the wall further to the west to split the Deathling defenders in two segments. Sasha Belinsky tried to rally the people around him by standing onto a stone and yelling charges in the Common tongue, but as soon as he started shouting an arrow drilled its way into his skull, fired from the wall, killing him instantly on the spot.

Darak Bolvus distinguished himself especially well on the wall, killing dozens of Deathlings in an Orc rage, clearing the way for the other less combat experienced militia to capture the front gate. With the Loyalists having captured the gatehouse that would allow them to enter the city, they thought they were going to have a smooth ride straight to Freya’s hiding hole, but as the battle kept going on and on, it became more clear to William that the gatehouse was experiencing issues. The gate controls had in fact been tampered with by the Deathlings and the chains refused to raise from the top of the gate tower. With time pressing, William came up with the brilliant idea to use the Starlight Cannon as a signal flare for the rest of the city, as when firing up at the sky, it would be visible from miles away. The Cannon was re-aligned and aimed at the sky, producing a massive brilliant beam that slowly arched over the city’s dense districts, alerting everyone of the impending assault. With the signal given, most people assumed the light was the Imperial Spirit coming to call the people to rise up against their oppressor. The zealots caused a domino effect across the city, causing population group after population group to rise up, either to combat Freya, to defend her, or just to loot and scavenge the city.

The assault had plenty of casualties however. Kaja Santorski was the most notable, suffering a gunpowder explosion near her, blasting away her right hand, right ear, searing part of her skull with burn scars and scarring much of her right body side with shrapnel and burn scars. Veridan Daevaar was also equally hard hit, losing his entire right arm as a cannonball shot through it, the doctors just barely saving his life with the amputation of the stump. Nathaniel Devolt lost his left leg from the knee down to a severe axe slash, while Natasha Celyreos lost her left eye to an arrow. Freya Heinrich had an arrow hit an unfortunate spot on her right shoulder, paralyzing her arm from the nerves being cut. Zaos Hywynn was badly stabbed in the right leg by a spear, permanently limping him. Shaw Wren broke her right wrist during a fall, disallowing her from lifting heavy objects or putting much force up with this hand. Daniel Silevon lost his right ear and suffered a scar down his cheek, while Salvador de Santigo suffered a gorey scar on the palm of his right hand.

Luckily, closer to the assault, Sigurna Wodenstaff, Ulric Typhonus, the Celyreos family consisting of Amelina and Hansen and all their allies were ready to assist the wall assault. Within minutes, they arrived at the gate from which near the Starlight beam originated and assaulted the defensive positions from behind on the ground level, supported by Dahae Farveren, Hewie Brandr, Alyhna Agitheos, Frederick Batteaux, Fenic Cervantes and Thomas Sparce. With the Deathlings in chaos, Rei Kanter, Hugo Gavray, Caine Court, Margerie Phoebie Beringer and Estelle Trista Celyreos tried to force their way into the chain lever area of the gatehouse. Sure enough, Some Deathlings were inside holding the gates up with bars, but not for long, as Caine Court defeated nearly all of them single-handedly. Finally, the group smashed the bars on the gate chains, causing the mechanism to activate and the drawbridge to drop down, allowing the Loyalist army to enter. Unfortunately, the chain which detached and snapped loose violently crashed into Sahnkar on its way down, breaking their left arm and paralyzing it from the wrist down.

With the gate house fallen, the Loyalist army flooded into the city, slaying Deathlings as they went along, all on their way to the Chancellor’s Palace to apprehend Freya Lo and her usurpist Allies.

It would not take a genius to consider that vast segments of the population would start looting the city in attempts to secure good items for themselves. Most of them were not successful, people like Groux Favreau, Arlyth Nythern, Ryndis Baudh, Dadrae Despoina, Ushio Yokudame, Kyou Tokudame, Aedhlynne Baudh, Valerie Dera, Ishryniel Nhaddarrin, Adub Sayidin, Oisin Dochartaigh Odoherty, Lothon Taervacion, Rael Thorrin, Rokhpokka, Shaun Mayeaux, Yera Nehanda, Lithiel Losseniel, Valen Senlassan, Yazzu Szuzszaahdi, James Arament, Klary Faust, Nicoletta Krämer, Eoghan Frisael, Rakanuuk, Lavinio FIano dei Romari and Fyren Na’Akuel-Baudh. Alatariel Telrunya was the only noteworthy peacekeeper in the city, attempting to stop the looting on both sides, but they were completely overpowered by the sheer amount of looters and eventually just gave up this pointless struggle.

Elsewhere in the city however, some people were more successful. Mingzhu Koivula Sui was able to secure a sizeable chest of gold bars, enough to support a wealthy living standard for quite some decades and quickly ran off with the chest. Tyrazz the Tigran somehow managed to loot an Imperial Armor set glove of ceremonial armor of Emperor Theomar the First, a priceless religious artefact to the Sancellist Unionists, but also equally a difficult item since anyone finding this Tigran in possession of this item would surely see him as a heretic and a filthy thief. Joshua Boyd was able to secure a rough cut Emerald, surely enough to afford an expensive house in an uptown area in the city before going home, while Issac Schaefer secured an expensive Bluesteel sword finely engraved and crafted from a broken down forge.

Some other looters were even less fortunate. Yusa Rin Nishimori suffered a bad cut on their right shoulder that would later set in a scar. Zavov Al-Majra suffered an acid burn on their right forearm akin to a fire scar while attempting to loot an alchemical shop. Maddis Corshaal suffered a broken left wrist which would leave her unable to lift heavy objects with her left arm, while Erfaron Draylas lost his left hand in a very unfortunate rock crushing incident. Silvian Elking didn’t necessarily lose his left eye, but its functionality was ruined when some alchemical spill entered his eye, rendering it blind. Vehirion Vandiir was stabbed in his right leg by another looter, suffering a permanent limp, while Ievos Ordensias broke both of his shoulders when a heavy statue came down on him, permanently making him unable to raise his arms above shoulder level. Finally, Arnfic Beumar got into a bad fight with other thieves and quite gruesomely had his left leg chopped off with an axe just between the hip and knee.

Not all was criminal however. Many in the city tried to help the people and to shelter those running from the violence. Pechasera Tzavaras and Mirwen Tzavaras for example helped elderly get away from the fighting, Unsterbligh Vogel, Bertha, Apolonia Tzavaras and Audry Perrin helped children escape to the tavern where Zoey Laenecia and Aithwen Raedrimm had set up a safe haven. Noelle Hath and Noctis Altman ran messages between the tavern group and Nalani Starikov and Lusile Nainsi Connell who were holed in up in the school with some citizens. Unfortunately a fire explosion, presumably from a fire mage, burst into the school and severely burned Lusile’s right body, covering his right leg and right arm in burn scars.

More active opposition to the Usurpist forces took place elsewhere in the city also. Scuffs Jia Zan assisted Alderic le Seur Rosendahl, Darcie le Seur, Celeste le Seur and Charlotte le Seur build various barricades across the park to deny the Deathlings ease of movement. Asterion Fellmirr, Zziska Llessikt and Lunatheli Artiemus then smashed the chains between the Apparent District and the Main Harbor, denying the Deathling garrison in the harbor a way out when the Regalian Fleet would approach. Aethelred Coen, Suhailah Boutella and Blume Faelwen massed crowds near the tavern to form human shields in prayer to whatever deity they followed, to keep the children inside safe and to deny the Deathlings the use of the tavern tunnel to move to the Ithanian District. Breon Silevon and Aderthrin Kaegeiros were also seen pelting rocks at Deathling guards, distracting them from their patrols or deployments and taking them off course by drawing them into a long cat and mouse chase into the poor districts. Finally, Brynn Rosendahl, Ralits Mormenor and Dahlia Greenvine assisted the nurses who had set up a makeshift hospital in front of the ruins of Graygate with the injured citizens while conveniently positioning the storage carts in such ways that the Deathlings could no longer access this square occupied by the citizens.

Antonia Vanetti, much like other would be “securers” (people with either loyalist or usurpist affiliation who simply wanted to secure their livelihood or help the state recover items that the Lo forces would try to destroy) scoured the city’s major public buildings and government institutions with anything of value to secure from the looters. She saw others like Alatariel Telrunya, Amal Nagi and Dagmar and Kaya Sorenvik scouring through the military headquarters by the Noble District before finally stumbling into a back office which was presumably occupied by the Prince Marshal at some time. Obviously weeks of looting by Deathlings and subsequent looting by citizens during the assault had taken their toll on the interior. Some Kade banners could still vaguely be made out on the floor, trampled by the traffic, while papers were scattered all over the floor. As she was about to enter, Myrnin Thane and Relveth Vinthracia were seen running out of the room with a wooden engraved table.

Isabella Diadochos, Balthasar Tzavaras and Santiago Martinez just entered the room as she had started scouring the book cases, but left as quickly as they saw someone else was already in the office. Antonia peered past the books, all of which seemed like they had not been touched in years, oblivious to Momoirobara wakahisa running out of a back room with a chandelier in their hand. Antonia was knocked into while the other person left in a hurry, falling over and dropping on the floor. As Antonia recovered from the fall, she could just see something lying under the cabinet which she had fallen next to. Her hand reached out to grab for it as Tark Grey passed the doorway and scoffed at this woman laying on the floor, grabbing at the dust bunnies under the cabinet like some vagrant. But Antonia would have the last laugh here.

When she retrieved the item, it was a small seal with several Imperial markers that she did not recognize, accompanied with some writing in a language she did not understand. The seal had an intricate shape what looked like an Ermline or Weasel coiling around a shield, with the name “Dominic” underneath it. The seal looked really important on account of its golden lacing on the handle and gold leaf decoration on the print itself. She quickly hid the item in her pocket as Alexei Kozak and Ardige Viduggla sped past the room, calmly walking out of the building to hide her prize. She did not quite know what she had yet, but figured if the Loyalists would win, it would only take a few weeks for them to realize that the seal had gone missing. Whatever advantage she might have gotten out of it, should be had in the days after the assault on the city, one way or another.

Elsewhere others were less fortunate. Lorenzo Martinez and Gaston de Baccarod attempted to scavenge the ruins of Graygate, only to have Gaston’s right foot get crushed by a falling rock which eventually cost him three of his five toes. Sae’ra Velulaei’eyha and Ethlynn Vlasta were seen scouring the old Sancellist offices when the Deathlings left, but found nothing, only hearing the screams of Perseus Delbay who had somehow gotten crushed under a bookcase that had fallen over, paralyzing his right leg in the process. Kaya Sorenvik was elsewhere captured by guards who beat her so severely for attempted robbery and looting that she lost a few teeth from her mouth. Elsewhere yet Syrimon Velulaei’eyha and Friederike holzer had gotten embroiled in a fight over a chest of golden seals and had somehow managed to tumble out of a third story window together. Syrimon broke his right arm and right leg, permanently paralyzing his right arm, while Friederike Holzer shattered part of his spine, thus losing functionality in both legs. Friederike lay there for several hours, watching other looters go by before the pain had subsided enough for him to try Ellon Magic. To his relief, while in Ellon form, he could still walk, but he was forever a cripple in Human form.

It was about midday when the first signs of the Loyalist army were spotted by the Deathlings guarding the Chancellor’s Palace. The sun was hidden behind an overcast, cloudy sky as a heavy, slushy rain fell down from the heavens. Afamrail Daril was the leader of the defense, and immediately behind him were Zavier Soseki, Kero, Virgil Buhr, and Halfrida Sorenvik. Ordering Virgil to go sound the alarm and gather the rest of the Usurper forces, Afamrail leaned forward on the stone bannister as he eagerly anticipated the battle that was about to happen. He knew that however the events of that day went down, the Battle for the Empire would finally be over. Even though neither side was guaranteed to win, there was a sense of finality in the air around both forces. Both armies were eager to get this over with.

Virgil returned, giving word that the Deathlings had been alerted and were now marching toward the Chancellor’s Palace entrance to meet the Loyalists. Kero withdrew his lightseeker from within the folds of his cloak, and Halfrida acted similarly, readying the ax that hung on her belt. As the Loyalist army came into closer range, Afamrail noticed that Christopher Black was leading the charge, and then the army came to a clearly disciplined stop. They had been training for this, he realized. No matter. The Deathlings couldn’t possibly be any less disciplined, as they had all experienced the cruel darkness of death at one point or another.

Christopher raised his fist, signalling the charge to halt so he could speak with the Usurpers. He took a deep breath, then exhaled. There was no turning back at this point. He would do what he had come to do-- finish the war and execute Freya Lo.

“Traitors and Usurpers,” he started, yelling so his voice could be heard over the vast courtyard. To either side of him were houses of civilians that had once reaped the benefits of living in such close proximity to the Chancellor. In front of him was the massive, squarish expanse of the Palace. He could make out a few features on the balcony like structure that seemed to bridge over a tunnel, “Since there are so few of you, I’ll give you three choices. The first: bring your vile Empress to us and redeem yourselves in the face of the Empire, or the second: surrender to us and tell us where she is.”

Afamrail thought for a moment, then called out to Christopher in response, “And the third?” he questioned, wondering if the former Nobleman had forgotten his speech. That would be the day, he thought.

But Christopher answered and smiled conspiratorially, “Die to our weapons in the name of the true Emperor, Alexander Kade.”

Afamrail scowled, recoiling at the mention of the Emperor. Enraged, he spat out, “None of what you say will ever happen. We will destroy you and burn your corpses one on top of the other, with your friends and family hopelessly watching, unable to identify your charred remains buried under your brethren. Then, they will die too.”

Black smirked, knowing that four meager Usurpers could not withstand an attack from a hefty force of over one hundred people, “Let’s not get too ambitious. All of the Deathlings are preoccupied elsewhere. You have lost.”

Then, Christopher became aware of a deep, thudding sound. It was constant, loud, and drudging. After a moment, he cursed Afamrail and then cursed himself for not realizing sooner. It was the sound of marching. Continuous, trained, marching.

Sure enough, moments later the Deathlings marched into view, emerging from the tunnel that was underneath the balcony. In an image that would not soon be forgotten, hundreds of Deathlings came out of the tunnel with a few Non-Deathling commanders. These commanders were Ryoko Himura, Kssa Va, and Dante Shiro. As the army spilled out onto the courtyard, both armies stared at each other in silence. The numbers were looking even, but the Deathlings had a slight advantage, but not one that added any fear to the Loyalists. A collective groan swept through the Loyalists as they realized their job would not be so easily achieved.

Christopher Black looked to both sides of him, nodded at his comrades, and then let out a cry that would stay in the minds of each person that was in the battle for decades to come-- those who survived at least, “For the Empire!” With that, he charged toward the Deathlings with the army closely following him. From that point on, swords clanged together and soldiers screamed in pain for the next few hours, creating a deafening cacophony of war and battle.

While the battle was raging, Nomiel M'triche attempted to escape the carnage by running past the gardens to the river which ran away from the fighting. On her way down the staircase however, she stumbled over a sword that was laying on the floor and tumbled down the staircase, eventually crashing into a pile of pumpkins. The pumpkin in particular she landed on was mushy, her lower body smashed through it and got stuck in the pumpkin smash, the pumpkin which due to her momentum then rolled off the edge of the riverside and fell into the water. Like a little boat, the pumpkin floated while Nomiel held on for her dear life as the river was about to take her for a ride down the flooding waters, the rivers strengthened by the thawing of the snow in the mountains further up stream.

Those on the balcony retreated into the palace, waiting to see if the Loyalists broke through the Deathling forces into the building. It was a possibility, but it was hard to call which way the wind would blow. Gathering the small garrison that was assigned to protect the palace at all times, they waited and waited.

Outside, the battle ensued furiously. On the Loyalist side, there were Christopher Black, Helfarme Orthamann, Rennyn Ravaris, Matheirux Valeur, Adhemar of Istrien, Conrad Cole, Asta Akidottir, Ingvar Norrvakt, Whitlock Carswell, Castien Fidelis, Mallorie Non’Elle, Guthrum Wulfbahn, Nemir Celeben, Avra Tzavaras, Jamison von Silvrest, Bailos Fidelis, Rahwon Yerdiyl, Revalquess Dralthar, Sergei Titov, Philip Brousseau, Allison Olversdottir, Helena Payne, Bran o’Dorcain, Arryn Taren, Ninleyn, Maxwell d’Ivry, Lunette Narelle, Rhyfon Lefyr, Renly Kade, Hippolytos Tzavaras, Sitrius Ravenburg, Lucas Amalao, Eyanrend il-Faenin, Jocelyn Le Seur, Tom Jenson, Endraill Zaskrynn, Phon Senajan, Ryarim Amethil, Alvaro de Santigo, Leonzio Vanetti, Marcel Banastre, Marcus Coiro, Saelethil Araven, Reddulf Gyldish, Madeleine Amalao, Elwyn Vanyar, Henry Banastre, Korag, Soraya Tzavaras, Dima Tzavaras, Seraphina Eroth, Sirel Therlyn.

There were others that participated in the Loyalist attack but were maimed and carried away in stretchers: Zenzik Me’Tho got a small scar over his left eyebrow from a blow that left him unconscious, Anton Storbjorn got a large scar on his right arm, Demetrios Tzavaras gained a scar on his left ear, Bram Eversnow got a scar on his right hand, Riquenza Acunar got a scar on his back. Isabelle Diadochos broke her wrist and now suffers from diminished movement in her right hand, Hippolytos Tzavaras lost the top half of their right ear, Saellihn Ankaynan broke their right leg and will now have a limp from now on, Creighton Grey broke his right leg and will also limp from now on, Roland Blakely broke their left wrist and cannot lift heavy objects with it anymore, Kaleel Ishmael lost the pinky finger and ring finger of his right hand as well as part of the hand itself after having it crushed by a mace, Edoardo Enrique lost his left eye, Rodderick Coen lost his left leg below the knee, Zaheer il-Lasha lost his left arm from the elbow down, and Dmitri Bogdanov lost his right arm from the shoulder down.

On the Usurper side of the battle, things weren’t much better. Jaether Alscher, Eira Sorenvik, and Thomas Jackels were all killed by various Loyalists. Eira Sorenvik and Jaether Alscher in particular were killed by Conrad Cole. Thomas Jackels, on the other hand, was killed by Asta Akidottir. Christopher Black, seeing a small gap in the defender's’ forces, ordered Whitlock Carswell, Ingvar Norrvakt, Conrad Cole, Asta Akidottir, and Castien Fidelis to follow him into the fortress, bypassing the rest of the Deathlings.

They entered a large entry-room that was adorned with beautiful stone carvings and chandeliers, with the floor having been polished to perfection. Christopher noticed that he could even see his own reflection in it. One detail, they noticed, was that it was empty and silent-- aside from the horrifying symphony that was playing from whence they came. Somewhat familiar with the building, Christopher lead the group through a twisting maze of rooms and kitchens until they finally came to a center hall.

This hall was unlike any other. In the center of the far side of the room was a giant oaken door, with polished twisting staircases on either side of it. Above the door, a loft-like platform extended between the two staircases. On top of this loft stood Afamrail Daril, and just beneath it stood Kero, Zavier Soseki, Virgil Buhr, Kssa Va, Halfrida Sorenvik, Ryoko Himura, Venkey Ra, Dante Shiro, Fy Daril, Mingzhu Sui, and Uzoma Diama.

“You’ve got one more chance to surrender,” Christopher said, “If you don’t accept then you will all be killed as needed and we’ll push our way through that door to kill Freya.”

Afamrail gazed at Christopher with unanswering eyes, declining to give his opponent the satisfaction of hearing him speak.

“I grow tired of this,” Conrad said, “For the Empire!” he shouted, then charged toward the Usurpists as his friends echoed the call and attacked the enemies.

Conrad cut a slit in the top of Venkey Ra’s left ear with his sword, then batted the man’s weapon out of the way and left him on the ground, grasping at his wound. Asta Akidottir broke Dante Shiro’s nose, effectively disabling him. Fy Daril was essentially gutted, and would have a nasty scar across his stomach once the wound healed. Mingzhu Sui lost their left pinky finger, and Uzoma lost their left middle finger. As Afamrail noticed how fast his troops were being disabled, he ordered a surrender, his angered voice stretching across the bloodied hall. Christopher ordered a few of his troops to carry the wounded away and get reinforcements and a battering ram, then he approached Afamrail, his sword still extended in case his opponent were to try anything.

“No more tricks,” Afamrail said, “I am done.”

And with that, he followed his wounded friends that were being dragged away, his head downcast. Christopher let him go, as there was no way the man could escape the Loyalist army. One of the people he sent away for reinforcements returned and told him that the outside battle was over as well. The Deathlings had surrendered-- what was left of them, anyway. Most of them had been chopped to pieces and killed by then.

Minutes later, a squad of more soldiers marched through the hall, carrying a long, heavy log between them. Christopher smiled, then looked toward the door. He could just imagine her gray, dead face as he stared at the door. Soon enough, she would pay for all of the lives that she had taken.

The sounds of war washed over the city as the Imperial Loyalists assaulted the very walls of Regalia. While the sight outside the city was terrible, inside things had begun to spiral out of the deathlings control. Everyone from civilians to rebels in the city had taken up arms to stamp out the deathlings and cause chaos in the streets. Miti-Ji Zo stood in the streets, wringing her hands as Balam eul Geoseulleo, Culnaza Kitamura, and Rafaarah overtook a group of deathling guards. She had no wish even now to incite further violence in the city. As she turned down a side-street to escape the bloodshed, a lone deathling guard fled toward her, sword in hand. The guard raised it to strike, and without thinking, Miti-Jo sent a great gust of wind at the man, not only sweeping him off his feet, but sending him flying out of the alley to crash into a cart. Miti-Jo sheepishly snuck out to inspect her work, and was greeted by some very eager rebels in the form of Sarah Kinsley and Nal Roh the Dakkar. Spurred on, Miti-Jo used her magic and reason to root out as many deathlings as she could, flanked by a small retinue of rebels.

In the distance yet, a small Lampar was screaming for her life as the river kept dragging her further and further through regalia, through underpasses, beyond bridges and past the battles that raged in the streets. Eventually Nomiel managed to grab hold of an leek that was floating in the water, no doubt from a stray cart of vegetables that was ran into the river. She attempted to paddle as best she could, still stuck in the pumpkin that was keeping her afloat in the river's torrent. Eventually she just disappeared out of sight in a dark tunnel.

Conf Helethium stood in a ruined building near main street. He and a small group of civilians armed with makeshift weaponry prepared for an attack on the area surrounding the Golden Willow Tavern. Conf used his strategic mind to good use, sending a group of civilians to flank both exits. Conf directed Appius Ravilla, Finwe Erakon Mineldur, Garret Ames, Olivia Osborn, Abel Roux, and Lacuna Ribbon Elmeroth to charge down mainstreet, while he led, Abel Roux, Appius Ravilla, and Ayahoshi Tetsume in sneaking through the back exit. The forces charing up mainstreet gathered civilians to join them as they want, engaging in a massive melee in front of the Golden Willow. Finwe shot down several deathlings before getting slashed on his left arm by a deathling. Falling to the floor, he was only saved by a civilian smashing a flower pot over his attackers head. The fighting on Main Street was fierce, as was Conf’s taking of the Willow. They surprised the few deathlings trying to take refuge there. Valenthil followed Conf into battle. Charging into the kitchens, a deathling was overtaking Bo'as Zijac in battle. Valenthil joined the battle for only a few moments, until a keg of mead from the floor below was blown to bits by an imperial fire mage. So a great portion of the Golden Willow’s basement was blown apart, as was Valenthil’s left leg and left hand. Both had to be amputated later on, but as the explosion occurred, Valenthil was sent flying across the room. He was saved by Bo'as Zijac and dragged to safety. In the floors above, Conf distinguished himself not only by leading his men through the tavern, but inciting even more civilians to take up arms when they had taken the building. On the collective marched throughout the city, attacking deathlings and inciting further melee’s throughout the city.

Borin sat in the park with his maul laid across his lap. He was enjoying a final drink, before hopping to his sturdy feet and stomping into the city proper. To the dwarf, it was time for a good fight. As he marched, he did not hesitate to smash his maul into the face of each and every deathling he came upon. With sheer brute force he won battle after battle, inspiring what civilians and rebels witnessed his carnage. Naushe Kearney and Kohi Zevkar witnessed this and helped draw more rebels to follow the dwarf. With Borin at the spearhead, many rebels joined him in sweeping throughout the streets. Baird Norvakkt stood by his side, supporting the dwarf with his two dual-axes. Finally, the group came across a small batallion of deathling guards. They had just fled Greygate, but were armed to the teeth and eyeing the dwarf and his rebel followers. Both sides stood on either side of a large courtyard in the center of the city. The Imperial Loyalists almost fled, had it not been for Borin raising a single stubby fist. He spoke in a booming voice. “I’ll give ye lot one chance. Walk aw-” and then, one of said deathlings charged forward. So charged both sides and a deadly melee began. Merril Audhild fought by the sides, not eager to get into the center of the bloody action. It was this very hesitance that doomed her, as deathling reinforcements rushed from the side of the melee, right where Merril fought. She didn’t even see the sword that tore her leg apart. She barely even felt it as she fell to the floor. Even then she looked down and knew it would have to be amputated, so horrid was the wound. The grievous injury infuriated the imperial loyalists, and on they brawled. More and more reinforcements came to fight in the courtyard. Vul'kcks-akx’s rightmost finger on his right hand was torn off. He could no longer hold a sword, and he fell, only for Borin himself to leap off the fallen bug and hurl himself into a throng of deathling warriors. Countless guards fell to the dwarf’s maul, and his ferocity inspired the loyalists to finish the fight, scattering what deathlings survived the battle.

All across the city, imperial loyalists usurped the deathlings by steel and blood. The streets were a veritable bloodbath on both sides.

The lighthouse stretched out before them as they approached it, gazing out over the ocean. In the far distance, they could see the Imperial Blockade, the gathering of ships that centered around their objective. The lighthouse itself was mounted on a sharp, square base of stone and reached out into the heavens. At the top of the massive tower, the group could make out its light as it illuminated the ocean, having been turned on because of the harsh weather. Under normal conditions, it wouldn’t have been turned on until that night.

Dr. Fong, Tessa von Greif, Grigori Kappadoikos, Walthur Drake, Eric Touth, Lionel von Greif, Aeros Ginren, Saskia Drache, and Samuel le Seur entered the seemingly unguarded bottom of the lighthouse. As they walked in, however, they saw they were in for a treat. A Deathling sentry had just reached the bottom of the spiraling staircase, took one look at the group, then turned around and started running up the stairs to warn his friends. Samuel followed after him, hoping to keep the element of surprise, but the Deathling stopped abruptly, causing Samuel to run into him. It withdrew its sword and slashed at Samuel, separating him from the complete bottom half of his ear, then slashed him across the stomach. The slash, however, would not scar in the future, strangely enough. Falling down the stairs after he lost his balance, he landed on the bottom, unconscious. Dr. Fong and Saskia Drache stayed at the bottom to make sure Samuel was alright and to fend off any Deathlings that had any intentions of stopping their escapade.

Grigori, Tessa, Walthur, Eric, Lionel, and Aeros all ran up the now bloodied stairs and eventually made it to the top, where they were careful to open the hatch to the light of the lighthouse, as they were sure it was a trap. And they were right. A few arrows slammed into the hatch as Grigori pushed it open, and he hastily closed it. How was he to storm the light if they were aiming at the hatch with drawn bows? Once he had that thought, he had an idea. He pushed the hatch open with the tip of his sword, and when the arrows slammed into it, he rushed up the ladder and defended the entrance for the others to come up. One of the arrows he actually deflected by hitting it with his own sword, and by then the others had finally gotten to the top. Grigori took care of the remaining Deathlings by himself for the most part, but Walthur Drake also played a large roll. He grabbed the last Deathling by the shoulders with his bare hands and threw it off the side of the lighthouse before it crashed into the ground, dead.

Then, Grigori flashed the signal in the direction of the Blockade until he received an answering signal from the Blockade.

They had gotten the message and were now coming to port, to aid their comrades in the battle.

The group had succeeded, despite the odds that had faced them.

As the Imperial fleet sailed closer and closer, the battleships opened their gun ports and sailed straight into the harbor. A certain Lampar still very much stuck in a pumpkin but having some more control over her journey on account of her leek paddle, slowly paddled out into the harbor. As she was about to brush some sweat off her forehead, a massive warship sailed past, causing large waves to form, pushing the pumpkin on yet another journey down the canals, Nomiel all the while screeching with high pitch noises.

With the Loyalists yelling and storming down the halls of the Chancellor’s Palace, the situation started looking more and more precarious for the Lo Empress and her personal entourage. Aside from her personal guard and commander Nicholas, her inner court had accompanied her to the inner chamber of the Chancellor, a room specifically designed to outlast an assault of a smaller magnitude. With her were Frederik Struumsen, Kailu Bryrie, Maquez Balasco, Odenta Mercer, Wilfre Vaendit, Grom Facecrusher, Gustavo Javier Anahera the Deathling, Nendai Henja as well as Cecile Durant and Astrid Lo, accompanied by her bodyguard Hannah Lexen. The Empress had forbidden any of her court to depart from the room or make any sound, so the court remained frozen while she sat on her throne.

The grandiose throne the woman had taken still shone white in the gloomy room, still it had lost much of its perceived menace. Many nervous glances were stolen towards the lone figure at the top of the steps. Freya sat in all of her finery, clutching a single golden engraved cane across her lap. The woman’s eerie blue gaze swept over the assembled beneath her. Her grip was loosening and she could practically feel it, it was almost tangible, the shift in power. She peered towards the front of the room and then back to her lap, her cold gaze then snapped towards her daughter, who stood at the bottom. Lingering, clenching her fists. The younger woman was tense, pale, on the verge of breaking. Her fists shook and her own eyes were wide, the eyes of an animal cornered.

Then, a loud thud was heard against the thick oaken walls. It became immediately clear to those present that the Loyalists had defeated the defenders and were trying to bash down the door. Thud was followed by thud in ever increasing rapid succession, causing a further building of anxiety in the room of what was to happen when those doors broke, if they would. The panic room was designed to help the Chancellor survive in the event of a populist uprising, but this was an actual assault led by military trained individuals.

With each resounding thud, the almost buzzing sense of panic and confusion in the room grew. Those doors wouldn’t hold, not against those who knew how to take them down. Each thud against the trembling door sent a chill through the queen upon her throne, her normally impassive and somewhat cold demeanor was tainted by worry, concern for once that things had taken a turn. The woman’s brows furrowed, her fists tensed about the cane and she rose elegantly from her seat. With a grand sweeping of dress fabric, Freya descended from her seat, her gaze locked onto the doors that could not hold. Would not hold against a tidal wave of angry loyalists. She lifted a hand, “Astrid. You’ll come with me, child. Did I ever tell you how I died?” The creature that Freya had become spoke hollowly to her daughter.

While Freya contemplated the events, Cecile Durant peered around the room trying to think of some way to avoid the inevitable death that was about to befall the Empress and her court. She had already calculated that while Freya was alive in this room, and the Deathling guards were with her, nobody would leave this room alive as any fight was sure to cause large amounts of casualties. The only way to survive in this situation, was thus to kill Freya Lo. Freya Lo had to die. While she contemplated this, she suddenly caught a glimpse of shiny metal from the corner of her eye, a faint flicker of candlelight reflected off a small piece of metal by Astrid’s side. Cecile panned her view directly to Astrid while Freya continued to react to the building panic. As she scanned down Astrid, she became more acutely aware of the opportunity presented, but Freya was still too moving, the chances of Astrid succeeding were too low. She quickly hatched a plan that was immediately set in motion, jumping forward and raising her voice to make some incredulous plea to the Empress that was sure to interrupt her train of thought and give Astrid the opportunity she needed. Sure enough when she jumped out of line with the rest of the inner court, all eyes diverted to her, and none were aware of Astrid’s impending actions. It was now or never, or so Cecile thought as she anxiously watched Astrid approach.

Astrid clutched the dagger low and at her hip, the woman had to make a terrible choice, this thing that wore her mother’s face had never been her mother. That woman was dead and gone, Astrid knew that on some level. But it was still wearing her face. It spoke like her, it walked like her, it looked like her. Freya had turned towards her daughter, the woman’s cold gaze swept over Astrid and it was like she’d been thrown into a pool of ice. The woman’s hand crept towards Astrid to brush some of the hair from her face, a compassionless smile sliding over her white features. “We’ll face this together, like I died before. My darling little girl. My sweet Astrid, such a we-” The sentence was left incomplete as Cecile began shouting, screaming some ridiculous nonsense. The woman raised a cacophony, making a din as to distract the queen. Freya’s gaze snapped towards her with a disgruntled, “Feh.”

Something snapped in Astrid, something deep down in her gut shifted and the woman snarled at the thing before her, this Deathling, she swung the dagger up and plunged forward with an inarticulate cry. “We’ll rot together, mother!” The woman cried as the knife found purchase in flesh, sinking deep into the Deathling’s chest. Freya’s pale hand paused on Astrid’s face, the woman sputtered a single one syllable word, ‘oh’. She managed. It was odd how little it seemed to feel like anything, the bite of a sudden betrayal, of a sudden knife wound. The woman scarcely had time to process it had happened before she crumbled before the assembled parties eyes, her body form no longer held together by whatever dark magic had brought it back, a single mournful doleful expression and poof, the woman was little but a bit of black dust, sliding to the floor in a strangely soft way.

With Freya dead, all Deathlings just disintegrated. They weren’t even aware of it when it occurred, their physical forms simply exploding into a dust of light black powder that floated up to the ceiling and then just disappeared. Their clothes and armor dropped to the ground, leaving the rest of the court stunned. Freya’s crown made a loud clang as it hit the ground, rolling for a few feet before finally resting at Cecile’s feet. The gamble had paid off, and not a moment too late either. The heavy oaken doors were blasted open with gunpowder, sending a roaring thundering noise through the hallways. As the right door flung open unfortunately, the left flew off its hinges and collapsed onto Nendai’s Slizzar tail, crushing the spinal bones. While in extreme pain, he knew from this moment on that he could not slither in Slizzar form anymore, and was to live life on as a bipedal walker. The Loyalists stormed into the room, and as Cecile had predicted, did not start a fight at the sight of no Deathlings. In fact, they all calmly just lowered their weapons and placed all present under arrest for treason against the Empire. They were all arrested, but still, they had survived this precarious moment and escaped death on account of the actions of two young ladies.

By the time the Emperor and his entourage arrived at the Chancellor’s Palace, the city was effectively large in control of the Loyalist Army. The Violet Order was obviously gone, so now it rested on the militia to restore order. All Deathlings across the city had simply perished the moment Freya had died, disappearing into thin air and simply leaving behind their clothing. The people rejoiced, but there was also sadness and suffering for the casualties and the lives lost during the assault and the predating rule of Freya Lo. The Emperor took to a makeshift stage out of wooden crates and announced to those present that the Lo defenders and usurpers movements would be given a universal pardon if they quietly surrendered and lay down their weapons, granted amnesty for their supposed crimes to be forgiven in the eyes of the Law, though he warned that they would all carry the burden of Judgement by the Imperial Spirit. He further announced that there would be a diet at the earliest convenience to convene the people of Regalia to debate on the matter of future rule, to solve the severe financial burdens placed on the noble families, and to host public trials against the treasonous families. Because this pardon that the Emperor had extended to the so called traitors, did not extend to the Noble Families that pledged for Freya’s cause. With the freeing of the harbors and the disappearance of the Deathling guards, ships moored at the shipyards bringing food shipments and medical supplies in plenty. Soldiers also marched onto the docksides, capturing all the major military positions around the city and relieving the Militia from their positions. Most of the looting had ended by nightfall, bringing a somewhat peaceful end to a violent and chaotic day.

Nomiel also finally had been freed of her predicament by a random passerby fisher who just happened to pick her up with a fishing net and freed her of the pumpkin. Nomiel puffed up her cheeks in anger, kicked the pumpkin before finally walking away, huffing as she went along.

The damages brought by Freya Lo’s usurpation had not been as significant as past occupations, as most of the damage inflicted was morale, mental and especially financial. Freya Lo’s rule had squandered huge portions of the Empire’s treasury and even sucked the life out of many of the noble families bank storages. Some damage was hard to overcome though, especially for what some of it meant to people across the city. As the dying light of the setting sun cast just a few more rays of light onto the Empress’s square, William Coen sat on the cold stone floor, surrounded by half used makeshift beds and bloody bandages. His sister Milahme Coen approached him from behind, taking off her helmet, and finally sitting down next to him while she rested a hand on William shoulder. Together they peered out over the collapsed ruins of Greygate castle, contemplating, like so many other in the city would for the days to come, about how they could possible ever return to normal.

    OOC Notes:
    • Effects are immediate. Regalia's Snow has thawed, Greygate has been ruined and the Lo Occupation Story Arch is finally over.
    • All Noble Characters that found themselves either captured beforehand in Rothburg, or got captured during the Palace Assault or Freya Lo's inner sanctum are imprisoned due for trial at the Post-Diet.
    • The Post-Diet will be a one/two week long succession of events where the people and nobility can debate and appeal to the government about how to re-shape the Regalian political landscape, how to regain their lost finances, re division of titles and trials for the "traitor" families in which the traitors can attempt to prove their innocence, Or where other families can expose each other of being traitors.
    • A prison will be provided for the post-marked roleplayers but not for the noble families who can just walk around under the pretense of a gaurded escort and house arrest.
    • All Deathlings are dead and gone.
    • The Imperial Government will soon issue a common arrest warrant for a number of families that have not already been captured or who have only partially been captured.
    • How did the rolls work? Perms taken into account, those with maims or wounds had low rolls, those who were mentioned a lot had high rolls. We had a few 99 rolls, we had a few 0 rolls, and a few death rolls. We will not make the rolls public, but if a player wants to dispute their rolls they can do so in PM. We have recorded the entire rolling procedure to prevent accusations of tampering with the numbers.

    Joshua Boyd
The man scattered down the sewer grate as he slid out of the way of the advancing rebels and looters alike. His Rusty red eyes just sending a faint glare at the few that went, not really carrying either way. He had what he wanted. The Umredd put alittle pep in his step as he stepped off the final stone stair. Moving in a little jog back to his place, back to his ally.

Once in his little nest in the under city, Jo collapsed in the corner of the ally. The man bawled up a bit as he stared down at his knees, men and women passing in mass as they traveled in route to the above. Once the traffic slowed a bit the Umredd un curled. Oh how this day has changed. Firstly he was separated from his little squad of looters, one of the first to breach the surface when the chaos began. He was lost and alone within a crowd of soldiers and criminals alike and then... There it was.

Joshua slid the ragged out of his pocket and unfolded it, revealing the Emerald he had snagged to him and him alone. After all of the pain he had been through, after all of the bull, there it is. His hands shook with the object in his hands. This gem, this was the most money he's ever seen let alone had. Oh what he could do with this... What he's going to do.
