Well, often, when I browse the internet, I use my tablet. It is easy to access, right by my side, and able to be taken anywhere. However, I have only one issue with it. Way too often, the buttons are too small to use. I have difficulty browsing some websites. Other sites like Facebook and YouTube have apps that are easy to use on mobile devices. Why not have something similar to that with Massivecraft?

I know what some of you might be thinking. "This would be difficult for the staff, and would waste their time." To some extent, I agree. However, it wouldn't be too terribly difficult. The site is already made, and may features are already present. One change would need to be made. Larger buttons.

I would imagine having a side bar that constantly had the buttons that are currently displayed on the top of the web page. The side bar would scroll with you screen, and have the buttons be very large. A search bar would be present on top of the side bar, as well. Maybe the text on the forums would be a bit larger for the smaller mobile screen.

The issues I see with this are that it would take the staff's time away from the game and would cost money. The rights would need to be bought for any app stores, costing around 20-ish dollars each. If it was only one or two stores, then some users would be left out in the cold. Overall, this has benefits and drawbacks.

Post your opinions below. Do you want to see a forums app? Any features you want it to have? Question, comments, or concerns? I read every comment, and am willing to answers any concerns you may have. Have a Massive day!

I'm pretty sure this was already suggested. You see, to make an app and to publish it is very expensive.

I did a calculation of how much it would cost for a MassiveCraft app and the total was over $47,000. Expensive, eh?

The reason for this cost is because we'd most likely want our app to be free or something and that costs money just to make it free. With it being free, we would not be making money off purchases so it wouldn't go towards the total funding of the app. Secondly, if we would want it to have an app icon and it to look overall fancy- that would also cost money. It would be a never-ending process of the whole community including the staff throwing their money out of their pockets rather mindlessly.

Not only is the cost ridiculous- but the time that would need to be spent in making this would be extensive as ever. The staff of Massive have a lot of work to do plus considering they're working on releasing a new Regalia. Phew. That sounds like a boatload already. I do not believe you understand how much work it takes to make an app because it wouldn't be us just re-installing our forums within a system. It would be much more intricate and would require a lot of thinking and immersed time into producing the overall look. Bigger buttons on an app? No, no. To create an app it takes time an patience and surely the staff are quite busy.

Basically, to be upfront, I do not think a MassiveCraft app would ever happen unless one of us is already a millionaire or one of us hits the jackpot and is willing to share some money.

Sometimes, we can't have everything we want in life, huh? ><

I did the same calculation, but I noticed one thing. For one, accounts would already exist. The forum accounts are already a thing, and thus, would not need the ability to create ones within' the app. A design is already present. A few tweaks would need to be made, but overall, a basic design exists. We also have a logo. The MC cube. That factored in the costs of professional design. Yes, linking with a website is an issue, but overall, corners can be cut. Plus, maybe there could be a link to the premium purchase page. The website you used (I'm assuming it's howmuchtomakeanapp.com) was the cost to hire their professional team. The the price of $47,000 is a bit much, seeing as the staff work for helping what they love. So, the estimation you gave is quite off, and only applies to the professional team offered by the site.

So who should make this. I know app developers IRL and it would require a lot more than stated. An easier solution could maybe be to add an option for another XenForo theme which has larger buttons.
Also @indyfan98 do you know anything about coding or app developments?

I know about coding, but not app development.

@ObscureKoala
I highly doubt it would cost $47,000 unless we hired someone to do it for us and payed them quite a lot. Also, why should the graphics and aesthetics cost money? MassiveCraft has many talented graphic artists that could probably whip something nice up within at least a week :P

Well it seems you have no idea that there is a difference between an app and a website. It is not just porting everything, and changing af few values. And who do you expect to do these things?
If I recall correctly MassiveCraft has one tech staff at this moment who is (from my knowledge) rather busy. Also do you expect staff to work on MassiveCraft 24/7, none of them are paid. App development are not super easy. 47.000$ might be a bit high but it will atleast cost a few thousand dollars (unless XenForo made an app). Should I also remind you that 47% (MonMarty stated that somewhere on the forums) of the premium money is paid directly as tax & having 10 rack servers isn't cheap either.
Now comes the real question does any other MineCraft server have an app. Because some minigame servers can handle several thousand players has a higher income than MassiveCraft & many more staff members, do they have en app for their forums? Because if they can't do you then expect MassiveCraft do be able to?

As @Mindarchy suggested earlier, we could use Tapatalk. I'll elaborate a little more.

Tapatalk has made a Xenforo plugin that can be installed and configured. People could then download and install the Tapatalk app on their phone and view the forums in that way. The plugin is free and the app is free. Obviously this is not the optimal solution, but would likely be the closest you can get to a full blown app without spending a dime.
